Kristina Bengtsson. Show dates: August 5th – September 6th
The motivation for my work is based upon a curiosity with the space between the large and the small - proximity and distance, the nearby and the far away. The work attempts to build metaphoric propositions in which considerations of human scale and understanding are contrasted with that which is beyond reach – the scale of the imagination. The work is a response to contemporary society and culture; it raises questions about preconceived ideas and makes subtle propositions toward a new understanding of the relationship between people and things. My intention is to combine forces against categorical thinking.
In recent years I have attempted to develop a method of working that aims, as far as possible, to create a non-categorical aesthetics that allows for an open reading of subject matter beyond any assumed implications of style or medium.
