“Urban Jungle” Brent Lewin.
Things are shaping up nicely for Brent Lewin's show "Urban Jungle"
Brent popped in to show me his multimedia project that he created. Mostly shot on 8mm film, the moving images show his travels around the city of Bangkok following the elephants he photographs. Very good work! Look forward to seeing the projection coincide with the stills.
Pikto will project the film during the opening Reception Friday 5th June 2009. 6pm-10pm.
Drop by and have a look. Beer and food will be served.
Lets See Your Images.
The staff at Pikto love to look at photographic images, as do the the piktoNexi viewers. I encourage all photographers, beginner or pro, to submit your favorite photographs made by your fair hand. I will post a selection on this site.

Karsh exhibition at Pikto
Today was a good day for me, Andre, Saul and I began choosing the images that will be displayed at Pikto in September 2009 during the TIFF film festival.
Yousuf Karsh is one of the most famous portrait photographers to grace our planet. He passed away in 2002 but left behind a lifetime worth of work, now very rare to find original prints. Pikto has found them and are honored to be able to show them to you.
During September and October we will curate an exhibition of the greatest movie actors, directors, and film people of all time, taken by the legendary Karsh.
This is a very special glimpse at time past, and a look at the beauty that Karsh was able to produce with his large format camera.
Even if you do not like photography you will like this. Very special chance to to view history.
Don't miss out.
Don Weber, Success at Pikto
This years Pikto feature show (Donald Weber. "Drunken Bride, Russia Unveiled") has been a huge success. Along with the Documentary workshop Don Taught over two weekends. Keep your eyes peeled as his class will run again in the Fall/Winter schedule.
Kate Wilhelm, who attended Don's class hosts a great blog (see below for link). She talks about photography and what it was like to take The Documentary class here at Pikto
Great slide show of Dons work with commentary from him on the cbc website, see below. Interesting stuff.

Toronto Life liked it!
Sylvain Dumais
Photographer and Pikto teacher Sylvain has been experimenting successfully with 'Stop Motion' for quite some time now.
Have a look at his newest creation. Amazing work, well done Sylvain.
New York, New York
So New York was great. The photography festival was interesting, and I met many Toronto photographers who hopped over the boarder to take part in the portfolio reviews and check out exhibitions. Finn O'Hara was there along side Eamon Mac Mahon. I also bumped into Chris Wahl, Donald Weber, Ronit Novak and many other photographers. It was marvelous to merge with the Canadian posse and have a beer under Brooklyn Bridge, talk photography, have a laugh. New York Photography Festival is good place to show portfolios if you are looking to crack into the American market! Next year!
Great to see Heather Morton and Ronit Novak (Ronit also teaches at Pikto) who were there documenting the event for Heather's blog, find link below for full details on the NYPH.
Artist Talk. Donald Weber at Pikto. Saturday 23rd. 2pm-4pm
Don will discuss and answer questions regarding his Contact feature exhibition (Drunken Bride, Russia Unveiled) and life as a documentary photographer.
