Red Soldiers: Photographs by Sami Siva. www.samisiva.com

After years of hiding in the India’s sprawling countryside, Maoist rebels have now established their presence in 22 of India’s 28 states. Indian government declared that the Maoist insurgency is the number one internal security threat. Thousands have been killed during the maoist insurgency. The maoists claim that they are fighting for the rights of the impoverished. The government is ramping up its campaign against the rebels under code name - operation green hunt; it 's sending around 70,000 troops to rebel controlled areas to clear them out.

These photographs are from a rebel jungle hideout in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh, the heart of the Maoist insurgency.

“Kemptville is a small town located in Ontario is not far from Ottawa.  The humble town of 3,500 is primarily made of farmland.  Here. The Lavigne family hosts a yearly reunion that sees the attendance of members and close friends from four generations.  Some have stayed in town, others have moved to cities, and a few have left Canada.  However, all of them return for this one day back to the family form.  This is Kemptville and these are the Lavignes.”

"I've always been attracted to the mundane and often overlooked surroundings of everyday life.  In this series, I tried to focus on revealing the intrinsic beauty of places that would otherwise be old, unsightly and abandoned.  I've always admired the work of Stephen Shore, William Eggleston and Martin Parr who create compelling photographs of their ordinary surroundings".
